Julienne and John Hearn dance to the beat of their own drum. Literally. John owns the drums. The two first crossed paths as students at the Eastman School of Music, but it wasn’t until several years later, when Julienne had traded oboe for law–and John, percussion for finance–that they reconnected in Boston. From their first date it was obvious to both of them (and their family and friends) that something special was beginning. Evening meals at Tasty Burger and afternoon strolls through the Fens on the weekends were linked up by long weeknight phone conversations (John was still living in Portland, Maine) riddled with puns, laughter and love. Eventually, they took their first trip together, to New Orleans, where they managed to spend time with Julienne’s relatives in between po’boy tastings and midnight runs to Café du Monde.

When the time came to decide on a wedding location, New Orleans was clearly the perfect choice: not only did it split the difference between Julienne’s family in Seattle and John’s in Boston, it reflected their first trip together, and it’s the perfect place for a great party. They wanted a ceremony and reception that reflected who they are and what they care about—family (Julienne’s uncle officiated, John’s godparents were readers, and the wedding party was filled with siblings), music (getting an excellent live band was important to both of them, and Crescent City Soul did not disappoint), nature (Julienne chose to have her bouquet and floral arrangements overflowing with vines and greenery for a French Quarter courtyard look) and food (catering by John Besh was one of the first things that drew them to their venue, Latrobe’s on Royal). All of their interests came together in their personal, romantic and sometimes even humorous ceremony, followed by an amazing dance party and, of course, by what we know will be years of a happy and loving life together.
